Falls often become more of a concern as we get older. But they are not inevitable. There’s a lot you can do to reduce your risk of having a fall, even if you’ve had one in the past.
Perhaps you’ve noticed you’re starting to feel unsteady. If it’s stopping you living life the way you used to it’s important to take action. Contrary to what you might think, moving less will not help you avoid a fall. In fact staying active and moving more is the best thing you can do to stay mobile and maintain your independence.he right activities can help you maintain your strength, balance and coordination, which help prevent falls. Regular exercise will also help to keep your bones strong, which not only makes a fall less likely, it reduces the likelihood that you will suffer severe effects if you do fall.
This doesn’t have to be chore, in fact we believe it should be fun. Our falls prevention sessions are led by a Postural Stability Instructor who has specialised training in strength and balance movement methods for falls management (FaME and Otago), as well being an experienced Dance Artist and qualified Movement Therapist. These sessions will not only help your confidence and prevent you from becoming isolated, but you will have a lot of laughs along the way.
